Microblading FAQs: debunking common myths

Microblading is one of the most requested eyebrow treatments in the world, yet it is also one of the most misunderstood. Below are ten of the most common myths we hear at the studio — and the honest answers behind them.

Myth 1: To get microblading, all hairs need to be removed

Fact. Your natural hairs are kept and used as part of the design — they make the result more realistic. Only the hairs falling outside the desired shape are removed, so the brow looks fuller and naturally yours.

Myth 2: Microblading is painful

Fact. Microblading can feel a little uncomfortable, but it is rarely truly painful. Tolerance varies from person to person, and any discomfort is easily managed with topical anaesthetic creams applied during the procedure.

Myth 3: Microblading doesn't require maintenance

Fact. Microblading needs upkeep. Hairs growing outside the designed shape should be removed regularly to keep the brow consistent, and a gentle mechanical scrub once every three months helps sustain a vibrant colour. Avoid chemical exfoliants on the brow area.

Myth 4: Microblading can damage your eyebrows

Fact. Microblading is a safe procedure when performed by a qualified, experienced artist using sterile equipment. The risk of damage or infection comes from poor technique or unhygienic conditions, not from the procedure itself.

Myth 5: Microblading can cause your eyebrows to fall out

Fact. Microblading does not make eyebrow hair fall out. The pigment is deposited into the uppermost layers of the skin, where it can fade over time — but it does not damage the hair follicles.

Myth 6: You can't swim or exercise after microblading

Fact. You should avoid swimming and heavy sweating for the first 10–15 days, and avoid rubbing or touching the brows so the healing process is not disrupted. After the healing window, normal activity can resume.

Myth 7: You need touch-ups every six months

Fact. The frequency depends on your skin type and lifestyle, but most people only need a touch-up every 12–18 months to keep the result looking its best. Less frequent touch-ups, when properly executed, are usually better for the skin.

Myth 8: Microblading is only for women

Fact. Microblading is a great option for both men and women. It can fill in sparse areas, refine the shape and create a more youthful, defined appearance — designed every time around the natural masculine or feminine features of the face.

Myth 9: Microblading is expensive

Fact. The cost varies with the artist's experience, training and the products used. Microblading is generally considered a worthwhile investment because it visibly improves the brows for a long time, and saves daily makeup effort.

Myth 10: Microblading is not worth it

Fact. Done by the right hands, microblading can significantly improve the appearance of the brows and boost your confidence. If you are considering it, do your research and choose a qualified, experienced artist with healed-result photos to back up their work.
